The old steel culvert under this driveway had rusted out and the entrance was sinking every spring. We dug it out, bedded a new culvert at the right grade, backfilled with crushed stone and rebuilt the entrance so the ditch flows and the driveway holds up to traffic.

The village sits along the Castor River, and much of Russell Township is flat farmland on heavy clay — ground that holds water, heaves with the frost and quickly breaks up a driveway built on a thin base.
